Dr Stephanie Reinhart is a lawyer in Munich and a partner in the law firm REINHART Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft mbB. She advises and represents clients from the food, cosmetics and animal feed industries on regulatory, product-specific and competition law issues. Her advice focuses on demarcation issues, product labelling issues and the advertising of cosmetic products as well as representing clients in disputes with competitors and authorities. 

Member of the Sustainability Working Group of the Food Supplements Working Group of Lebensmittelverband Deutschland e.V.

Author of numerous scientific publications and regular speaker on various specialisation topics.

Why is the CosPaTox guideline so important for you and your company?

CosPaTox CosPaTox (Cosmetics, Packaging and Toxicology), a consortium focussing on the packaging and toxicology aspects of cosmetic packaging, has formulated a clear, technology-neutral guide for the safety assessment of plastic post-consumer recyclates (PCR) for use in packaging for cosmetic products and detergents. The CosPaTox approach can be applied to any polyolefin recyclate, regardless of whether it comes from mechanical, physical or chemical recycling.

The circular economy is considered a key aspect of the European Green Deal, and the recycling of plastics has been identified as one of the priorities in this context. However, the diverse origin and complex composition of post-consumer recyclates (PCR) make it difficult to determine whether and to what extent hazardous substances are contained in the recyclate.

The work of the CosPaTox consortium will contribute to the safe use of recycled plastics, even in the absence of food contact authorisations, by providing clear recommendations and promoting the acceptance of recycled materials in the packaging of cosmetic products and detergents.

Speaker profile

Dr Andreas Grabitz has been responsible for the testing and evaluation of packaging, primarily for food and cosmetics, at Eurofins Consumer Product Testing for 20 years. Mr Grabitz has held various positions in the laboratory and in customer service. Since 2021, Dr Grabitz has been Global Packaging Compliance Manager, responsible for legal assessment and evaluation, especially for international requirements, as well as project support, further education and training.
